Discover Yudanaka Onsen
Take in the stunning mountain scenery of Yamanouchi, with a long onsen history. Walk up the hill to the World Peace Buddha statue, ring the massive temple bell to send prayers for peace across the world.
Hike through peaceful woodlands, out to a quiet ravine to see the snow monkeys in the wild. Japanese macaque monkeys have been observed soaking in the hot springs of Jigokudani, since 1964. View these illusive creatures up close, observe their expressions, social hierarchy, behaviour and child rearing. The park is also known as the Jigokudani or Hell’s Valley, Monkey Park, Yaen Koen. December to March is usually the best time to witness them bathing.
Once you’ve finished monkeying around there are more monkey free onsens to dip into with a yukata robe, have a drink, and get ready for a delicious Japanese-style dinner.
