Whirlpools in hidden valleys
In the eastern corner of Shikoku surrounded in beautiful nature transcend from the coast to the hidden mountain valleys for spectacular views. Cruise to see the Naruto Whirlpools, trek part of the Shikoku Pilgrimage Route or try an array of outdoor sports with white-water rafting in spring, surfing in summer. Awa Ikeda offers locally brewed sake in the cool months. In Iya cross a bridge made of vines and in deeper valleys discovers a villagers and local specialties. A main attraction is the Awa Odori, and the August festival that brings people together to experience this famous festival now running for 430 years.
