Kawaguchi lake is the most accessible of the Five large lakes that surround Mount Fuji. The town is a hot spring resort named after the lake. Gaze up at the near symmetrical form in one of the many hot spring baths.
At surrounding lakes visit Oishi Park for its stunning views of Mt Fuji over Lake Kawaguchi Voyage out across the lake on the Kawaguchiko Sightseeing Boat. Oshino Hakkai is a small village built on the site of a former sixth lake that dried out several hundred years ago. Wander the traditional thatched houses and a set of eight ponds fed by the clear and at times potable running waters of Fuji-san.
Unnatural attractions are found nearby at Fuji Q Highland. This theme park features one of the world’s tallest roller coasters and other thrills as Mount Fuji looks on as a spectacular backdrop.
Cultural flair is evoked at Ichiku Kubota Museum with a display of stunning textiles and Kimono.
The local speciality is Hoto Noodles, a rustic thick noodle soup garnished with vegetables washed down with sips of local beer and in summer round out the meal with a softserve ice cream.
