Dogo Onsen is the first Onsen, the main building dates back to 1894 and is mentioned in Nihon Shoki, the oldest book of Japanese classical history. The top of the main hot spring building is decorated with the legendary white heron and a large drum, hear it beat at 6:30am every morning to announce the opening of the bath. Take time out for a soak in the springs with the locals. Or, dip your feet in the outdoor foot baths to take away any aches and pains after a long day sightseeing.
