Known affectionately as ‘The Pink City’ thanks to its magnificent pink architecture, Jaipur is a walled town surrounded by hills and maintains a regal atmosphere after a long and storied royal history. Set right into the heart of Rajasthan, t was painted pink in 1876 to represent hospitality, as Queen Victoria and the Prince of Wales were set to visit India that year. Jaipur has retained this exceptional legacy of hospitality ever since.
Aside from its remarkable rose-tinted beauty, Jaipur is famous for having been the first planned city in India, with well laid out streets which make exploring all the easier. With a selection of palaces to explore, from the City Palace set deep within the city walls, the Amber Palace located just outside it, or Hawa Mahal, a palace built by a poet, Jaipur will leave you feeling like royalty on your visit.
