Ancient Viking City

Ireland’s oldest city, famous for stunning glassworks, Viking heritage, and coastal towns.

Discover Waterford

As Ireland’s oldest city, Waterford offers a multitude of attractions across its charming towns and beautiful landscapes.

Begin your exploration at the iconic Waterford Crystal Factory, where master craftsmen create exquisite crystal pieces. Waterford Crystal’s history dates back as far as 1783. Learn about the city’s world-class glassmaking tradition right at the heart of Waterford’s historic Viking Triangle. Explore incredible artefacts at the Viking Triangle, a cluster of museums that includes the Irish Silver Museum, the Museum of Time, and the Medieval Museum. Reginald’s tower is a stone tower dating back to Anglo-Norman times. The tower has been used as everything from a mint, a prison, a royal castle, and now a civic building.

Stroll along the quays and admire the elegant Georgian architecture. Don’t miss the Bishop’s Palace, a magnificent Georgian mansion that offers a glimpse into Waterford’s past.

Art enthusiasts will enjoy the Waterford Municipal Art Gallery, showcasing contemporary and traditional Irish art which makes up the vibrant local art scene.

Nature lovers can explore the stunning landscapes surrounding Waterford. Take a scenic drive along the Copper Coast, a UNESCO Global Geopark, and marvel at the rugged cliffs and golden beaches. Hike the Comeragh Mountains for breathtaking trails and cascading waterfalls.

Savor Waterford’s culinary delights, from traditional Irish cuisine to seafood delicacies. Visit the city’s charming restaurants and cozy pubs. Sample a glass of Waterford’s famous whiskey at the award-winning Waterford Distillery.

For an unforgettable experience, venture to the historic Lismore Castle Gardens. The castle itself is owned by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and is not open to the public, but the majestic gardens are open to visitors and make for a charming afternoon in nature. The gardens cover ten acres and are the oldest cultivated gardens in the country. There are numerous sculptures dotted around the gardens, along with a contemporary art gallery, Lismore Castle Arts, located on the grounds.

Take a trip to Dungarvan, a picturesque town on Waterford’s south coast. Explore the historic Dungarvan Castle and take a leisurely stroll along the scenic waterfront. Indulge in fresh seafood at one of the town’s excellent seafood restaurants.

Experience the lively atmosphere of Waterford’s festivals and events, such as the Waterford Harvest Festival and the Spraoi International Street Arts Festival, showcasing the city’s arts and cultural scene.
