Along the way, there were 69 postal towns with rest stations spread out about every 8-10 km. Tsumago and Magome are two of these postal towns, preserved today as if time stood still. An historic appreciation for hospitality prevails in each village. Magome village is the most common starting point with its' functioning water wheel and traditional soba restaurants.
